Our Approach

Wireless equipment vendors and solution providers operate in a very dynamic and increasingly complex environment. In order to succeed, your business must provide better value for the customer than the competition. One of the main objectives of strategic planning is therefore to identify sources of competitive advantage, and to assess how you can design products and services with a compelling value proposition to your target market and the potential to meet your overall business objectives. Our approach to strategic planning, illustrated below, is straightforward and based on three distinct phases: strategic analysis, strategic choice, and strategy implementation.

Strategic Analysis

The process of strategic analysis seeks to understand your strategic position by examining your core competencies and resources, and the important environmental factors that influence this position. Once these key parameters have been identified, they feed into your strategic objectives by providing a focused view of areas where you are well positioned and where the greatest opportunities lie. A SWOT audit (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) is one very effective way of identifying which activities are best undertaken by your business. Much of this information is typically anecdotal, coming from discussions with management, key technical staff, customers, partners, or sales force meetings. Not to be ignored are your intangible assets, such as reputation, brands, and intellectual property, which can be crucial factors. Environmental factors typically include market trends, new technologies and standards, the competitive landscape, and regulatory requirements.

"The two key sources of information on the environment are convenient, cheap, and absolutely trustworthy: the customer and the competitor"
- Michael Porter

Strategic Choice

This phase involves identifying strategic options, and then evaluating and selecting options based on tradeoffs and stakeholder objectives. Key objectives should conform to the commonly used SMART criteria (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time bound) to ensure the validity of the proposed strategy. Other considerations include acceptable risk levels, needs and desires of key managers, and your corporate culture. AWS Consulting can assist you in the preparation and presentation of relevant information, the formulation of possible courses of action, and their evaluation and the choice between them.

Strategy Implementation

When a strategy has been synthesized and selected, the obvious next task is to translate it into action. AWS Consulting can drive this phase to successful completion by generating the schedule, resource plan, target product specification and marketing collateral, and performing project management and market/business development functions based on your individual needs.
